Question:

I have a home that was sided with 3x10 pine half log siding 7 years ago. I am seeing alot of logs that are turning black and have tried various things to clean, bleach, and even sand out the black, but there is so much of it and nothing seems to be working. Can you recommend a product or a suggestion of what the problem might be. I am in Northern Wisconsin if you could recommend a contractor.

Answer:

You will need to have it corn blasted and then washed with log wash before staining again. Avoid oil based stains that have linseed oil in them. That is more than likely what is causing the black.

As my cabin was starting toget black mold in the summer 2006, I hired a painting company who sanded the exterior but failed to kill mold before applying Benjamin -Moore stain. Now after only two years, it has turned ugly grey-brown mottled color. What do you recommendto restore the natural color
